    ABOUT

    Lwengo Youth & Women’s Effort Fighting AIDS/HIV (LYOWEFA): Helping mitigate the challenges associated with HIV/AIDS  scourge in the community of Kabalungi village,Lwengo subcounty.

    LYOWEFA is a rural Community Based Organization (CBO) operating in Lwengo District, Western Region, Uganda founded in 2017.  LYOWEFA focuses its services on youth ,Women and children in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support of orphans and vulnerable children, poverty alleviation, Water and Sanitation .

    We provide services to the youth  and Women through outreach in schools and villages, working together with public health centers for testing and counseling.

    OBJECTIVES

    Since the mission of the project is to see rural women and youth live a self-sustainable life, it is therefore, her responsibility to carry out the following:

    • Educative seminars in various areas
    • Poverty alleviation
    • Proper nutrition
    • Water and sanitation
    • Improved agriculture
    • Proper child care
    • Proper health care-hygienically
    • Educate the community on HIV/AIDS and  intensify voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) services in the community
    • Reduce the spread (new cases) of HIV/AIDS through effective mobilization and sensitisation
    • Assistance to widows, the elderly and other foster guardians of orphans and vulnerable children(OVC) to get education and material support for orphans under their care.

    WHAT WE DO

    EDUCATION

    LYOWEFA works with St.Peter’s Nursary and Primary School –Kabalungi to provide the affordable quality formal education to children from kindergarten to Grade 7 at the primary level.To date LYOWEFA has been able to support a total of 25 orphaned and vulnerable children in school.

    COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

    LYOWEFA designs and implements youth facilitation programs that engage local young children and adolescents, helping them get to know the resources available in the community and sensitizing them to the community issues, like HIV-related stigma and gender discrimination.

    Orphans & Vulnerable Children Support

    Of the approximately 1.2 million people in Uganda living with HIV/AIDS, over half are women, and about 150,000 are children under 15. The deaths caused by the disease have resulted in a large orphan population, usually under the care of single positive individual.

    POVERTY ALLEVIATION

    In an effort to improve access to household basic needs. We have equipped our beneficiaries with skills in starting, managing and sustaining income generating Activities (IGAs) like Animal rearing,hand craft making and commercial farming in their homes
